Artisan Story :
Sumerpur is 18 km away from Hamirpur, famous for its handicraft handmade leather shoes (Juti) industry. These handmade leather shoes are popular among the Bundelkhand & different parts of the country. They are collectively located beside the National Highway, NH86, passing through the centre of Sumerpur town. The Britishers have developed Kanpur as an Industrial hub for the production of leather, attracting the artisans in Hamirpur to start up Juti production units at Sumerpur. People from Haryana and Rajasthan came to this place, along with some from Peshawar and Lahore. They initiated Juti Manufacturing in 1952 with about 70-80 artisans. Currently, there are around 40 artisans in the cluster, including household workers and females. This is their third generation who are continuously engaged in the handicraft leather shoes (Juti) production.
