Artisan Story :
Seema Shrivastawa and her team in Mau Atwara village of block Shukul bazaar in Amethi has been involved in the artwork of moonj crafts more more than 20 years. She learnt this art from her mother-in-law. Most of the women in the village are involved in this craftwork from generations. The elder women train the new brides in the villages. At least 1000 women are involved in the craft including the nearby villages. Most of them run their families on their own. They complete their household work by 11 am in the morning and gather at a common place and work till 4 pm before heading towards their places. It has become a part of their culture and they enjoy doing that. Moonj based products form an important part of their lives and livelihood..
