Dhokra (also spelt Dokra) is brass cast by the lost-wax method. Each piece starts as a model built up from thin threads of wax, so the finished metal is covered in raised lines, spirals and small dots. The surface is a little rough, in a warm, dark gold. Makers include Ghadwa metalworkers of Bastar, in Chhattisgarh, and metal casters in West Bengal. No two pieces are alike.
